Miller High School Band Christmas Concert

Parents/Guardians, Friends, and Community

I am very excited to formally announce the Miller High School Band Christmas Concert.

On December 16th, at 6:30 p.m. the 7th Grade Band (Instrumental Exploration Class) and the High School Band will take the stage in what I understand to be the first band concert within the last fifteen years. This concert will be the first of many to come in what will be a very successful music program at Miller High School.

During the concert, you can expect to:

  • learn the timeline for a beginning band student

  • witness awards given to outstanding students in the program

  • listen to your students play their instruments

  • be lifted into the holiday spirit.

All students deserve to be supported, and celebrated, during their academic careers, this is why ALL concerts performed by bands from Miller High School will be free of charge, meaning anyone and everyone is invited to join us. There will be a donation bucket at the door for those that feel moved to give to the program. All donations to the music department (before December 9th) will be included in the program for the concert. Thank you to those of you who have donated and are considering donating. Each penny goes a long way for our new program.

All students enrolled in Instrumental Exploration and High School Band (2nd & 3rd periods) are required to attend and perform at the concert. This is a large portion of the grade for the class, so please arrange to be there. Any students that have conflicting schedules must speak with Mr. Carroll at least two weeks in advance to work out any scheduling conflicts. Students who do not attend will be required to complete an alternative assignment to take place of the missing concert. All students are expected to attend, as these classes are performance-based classes. Students are asked to be at the high school in dress-clothes*** no later than 5:30 p.m. This is so that we can finish setting up and begin warm-ups for the concert.

***Let “dress clothes” be defined by the following***

  • Any clothing that would be worn to a wedding or a nice dinner

  • Clothes that do not have rips or tears in them

  • Clothes that do not show undergarments

  • Pants that are not jeans, sweatpants, or pajamas

  • Shoes that are not tennis shoes, sneakers, sandals, or boots

  • Shirts that do not have images/print on them

  • Tops that do not show midriff or cleavage

  • Tops that are not tube tops, halter tops, single strap, and off-the-shoulder tops.

Not all students may have the listed attire, and that’s okay. Please attempt to dress as nicely as possible, while at the same time following the district dress code. If you have any questions as to what may or may not be acceptable, please speak with Mr. Carroll for clarification.

Your students have been working hard this semester and I know you’ll be excited to hear their progress. Please join us on December 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School Cafetorium as we celebrate our students and propel ourselves into this festive season.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Josh Carroll, Music Teacher/Band Director
