Recently a group of educators from Southern Local Schools traveled to Washington DC to present at the National Association for Professional Development Schools. Southern Local Teachers, Debbie Hoskinson, Carrie Tokie, Jennifier Boyden, Angie Plant, Ohio University PDS Liason, Sara Puckett and Millcreek Principal, Mary Lou Wycinski spoke on the effects of their experiences with their partnership with Ohio Unviersity, Athens. The group spoke on their specific roles in the partnership and the value of having the Ohio University Students in the classroom. By attending conference sessions, the group learned of the diverse structures of PDS work across the county. Most important, the Southern Local Group was excited to learn new ideas for the further development of their partnership with Ohio University.
The session title: “PDS In The Rural Context: Supporting Teacher Candidates In Our Rural Appalachian Schools” was lead by March Keifer Kennedy and Frans Doppen from Ohio University. Mrs. Wycinski spoke of the demographics of the area and Sara Puckett gave an explanation of the PDS program at Southern Local. The other staff members each talked of their individual experiences with the PDS students in their classrooms.
